Bill and Becky Wilde Pickups
Description
J-45The J-45 is a coaxial coil design incorporating our air spaced micro-coil system, to reproduce a noise free and Traditional Jazz Bass Sound. Nine evenly spaced direct alnico 2 magnets provide a wide magnetic field to perform equally well on most 4 and 5 string basses.
The J45 comes in a black cover with either flush pole pieces or a slight stagger that can accommodate most radii.

6 String Fixed Guitar Bridge This is the one I'm getting. It's string through the body & the dimensions of the holes say .156. I plan on using no bigger that .105 strings so that should fit through just fine. I decided on pickups and ordered them yesterday. I went with Bill Lawrence P-46 and J-45 set. All the reviews point ... ... more

You may find issues with the middle 2 strings with the P pickup as they will both be sitting adjacent to the magnetic fields of both P coils coils with your tight spacing unless you make the P route so that the halves of the P have less overlap than is normal. I've had some 5-string basses where this was an issue with the ... ... more

I built a "poor man's Jaco", a Squier VM Fretless Jazz body with a MIM Pau Ferro Fretless Jazz neck and Fender Original pups. Looks and plays similarly. I have it set up to have more of an upright vibe, and it does that well. My other fretless is a MIM jazz with Wilde J-45 pups, and it's more of a mwah machine. The J-45's ... ... more

What gives is that pole piece alignment with the strings doesn't matter. Look at the Wilde J45 as a case in point. Built by one of the most influential pickup designers who's ever lived. 9 poles evenly spaced, and sold as suitable for both 4 and 5 string basses - in neither case do the poles line up with the strings in ... ... more

tbh, that thing looks more bar magnet than not. but... you kinda do want your strings in the best field region and within the equipotential surfaces but a little deviation of +/- 1 mm isn't too bad given the large poles some pu's have and the ability to adjust the field in z prime. put chamfers on those pole edges and you ... ... more

If you get hum cancelling pickups, make sure they're not split coils. A 4-string split coil will have the split in the middle where your A string would go, and it wouldn't sound ... ... more

Those are Smith labeled Bill Lawrence pickups. Early Smith P and J pickups were made by Kent Armstrong with ceramic magnets and adjustable polepieces just like the soapbar humbuckers. Later Smiths had closed cover Jazz pickups, don't know who made those, then he started using the Lawrence pickups. J-45 ... more
