It's tough to say what size you need, but any guitar store should be able to get you a new nut. I don't think you can file that just a nut. If you insisted on using that one I think you would have to widen the slot to accommodate the nut which would be harder than shaping a new nut. Bone nuts cost like $5 as a blank.
