GZR P
Description
EMG along with legendary artist Geezer Butler have collaborated to develop the GZR-P and GZR-PJ signature bass pickup sets. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame bass player started working with EMG founder Rob Turner in 2011, looking to recreate the classic bass tones he had in Black Sabbath’s early days. As Geezer and Black Sabbath moved from studio to touring in 2013 the final component of getting the classic Geezer tone was in play - a passive pickup with a truly vintage tone an feel. If this were my setup, I'd keep the Mikro and swap the stock pickup with something like an EMG GZR P or a DiMarzio Relentless Middle (DP296) to enrich the "P" sound (and never use the J pickup again) and then buy a gently used Jazz bass, probably a Sire V5 or Sire V7 or maybe a Fender Classic Vibe '60s Jazz or G&L JB. ... more

Especially, since the blurb on the EMG mentions nothing about it . . . GZR P I can imagine that they've used BY's J basses on a few occasions to come up with some of their more vintage ... ... more

Yes, ask me. I heard it from two people... 1. Chrys Johnson, who used to work at Ampeg and EMG as head of artist relations. He brokered the entire EMG/Geezer deal, and asked me to relay info about the pickups to address some concerns that TB'ers had in exchange for a couple sets two months before they came out. 2. Bobby ... ... more

Thank you for the reply! i had found this and soldered accordingly. I tested the pickup before I put the bass back together and it was giving off electrical hum unless I touched something metal on the bass. Thought I had a grounding issue so asked for help. This morning i gave up and put the bass back together and presto- ... ... more
